Longitude/Latitude conversion?
I get sent a text message from a locator, but it comes in decimal. How can I convert it to degrees, minutes, seconds, when I am not near a computer? Or is there a way for my Garmin Vista to do that?
Your GPS has different modes. Just enter it when in decimal modes.
But to convert to degrees, minutes, seconds:
Take the decimal part and multiply it by 60 to get the number of minutes. If you start with, say 60.3 Then it is .3 * 60 = 18
60d 18 m
If, after multiplying, there is still a decimal part, do the same to get seconds.
For an example
13.213 degrees.
.213 * 60 = 12.78
12 minutes
.78*60 =46.8 seconds
13d12m46.8s
EDIT: I’ve been looking at the Vista manual.

The mode displayed in the pics is degrees and minutes. No seconds. In my last example, just 12.78 minutes.
By the way, there is a calculator in the Garmin.
There is also, the deg-min-sec mode.
